      Why do people don't understand "a proof of concept"? Sure, the object in the video has a lot of flaws as you pointed. That's why this is not yet a commercial product. Just imagine this product comes with 2 hundred, 2 thousand or 2 million pieces of folding blocks instead of 20. Imagine the folding blocks can be scaled down to the size of a few molecules. The structural limitations you noticed would be hidden under the microscopic world and can even be better than the natural polymer structure of conventional rubber - because the elasticity of rubber emerges at even bigger scale than the hypothetical folding mechanism. That's what we call "the machincal metamaterial( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_metamaterial )" and that's the long-term goal of this kind of research. A product in RnD departments need deferent evaluation schemes than a commercial product. The same goes to the test subject in science labs. Saying something in the lab is "impractical" is the dictionary definition of being impractical. When the Prime Minister of UK asked Michael Faraday this question, "But for what purpose this 'electricity' things can serve?", Faraday replied: "What good is a new-born baby?". Imagine how "practical" would it be to spoil his research at the point because those were seemingly impractical.

    Можно засунуть этот провод в некое подобие пера из пластика / резины и установить на дрон(или планер) чтобы он по степени воздействия на этот материал, мог понимать степень воздействия воздушного потока на устройство. То есть я представляю себе много мини пёрышек с некоторой гибкостью, разбросанных по крылу самолёта/планера, и компьютер анализируя изгибы таких датчиков понимал как себя ведёт воздушный поток под крылом и более адаптировался к этому потоку, имел больший кпд при полёте. Хорошо для беспилотных маломощных лёгких самолётиков. Я уже предлагал сделать нечто подобное с сенсорным кабелем от Гугол, но там надо немного изменить устройство чтобы оно реагировало непосредственно на изгиб, а не прикосновение (засунуть его в некий гибкий пинал - трубочку, чтобы изгиб этой системы из двух элементов сопровождался касанием друг о друга)
